RECIPE: Apple Pie Power Bites

These Apple Pie Power Bites have that apple pie flavor without some of the more unhealthy ingredients such as refined flour, butter, and white sugar that are found in many apple pie varieties. These bite-sized power bites make a great snack, are perfect on the trail for that hike or bike ride, and also make a great finger food dessert.

For the calorie and sugar conscious out there - take a deep breath knowing you would need to eat 6-8 of these Apple Pie Power Bites before hitting the number of calories and amount of sugar found in one serving of traditional apple pie (depending on the recipe).

The prep for these power bites is quick and easy, there is no baking needed, and the ingredients are all natural. Make no mistake about it - these will be a hit no matter how you decide to share them with your family, friends, or dinner guests.

Apple Pie Power Bites


1 cup dehydrated apple chips (homemade or store bought)

1/2 cup old fashioned oats

1/2 cup almonds

10 Dates (deglet noor, pitted)

1 tbsp. ground flaxseed/ flaxseed meal

1/2 tsp. Vanilla extract

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp allspice

(Makes about 20 one inch balls)


Soak dates in a bowl of warm water for about 20 minutes or until soft. Remove dates from bowl and place in a food processor, saving remaining water in bowl for later.

Add remaining ingredients into food processor: apple chips, oats, almonds, flaxseed, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and allspice.

Blend until mixture turns into a doughy consistency. While blending, add small amounts (about a teaspoon at a time) of left over date water as needed if mixture is too dry.

Use an melon baller, ice cream scoop, or small spoon to scoop mixture. Roll between hands to create 1" sized balls. Recipe should make around 18-20 one inch balls.

Place in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to eat.


If mixture sticks to hands while rolling, rub a small amount of the left over date water between your hands before rolling dough.

If your mixture comes out too wet, finely chop some almonds or walnuts and roll each ball in chopped nuts to coat the outside before placing in storage container.
